What's Where: Structure of the Agora

  • What's Where: Structure of the Agora

The forum layout was designed in the way it now stands to help structure content better, and thus help you to grasp what's where (and what could possibly be where) more easily. More information on terminology of a message board (in case you need it) is posted for you here.

    Overall structure
The portal is the start page, holding the basic information on how to get into and started with this year's eAGM.
    Link: Portal

These are the different sections, pertaining to different overarching topics where you and your fellow attendees can discuss all matters closer to your scientist / GYA-heart.
    Link: Forums

    AGM Schedule
This holds all the events and sessions that are a part of this year's AGM. Each calendar entry will have the links to anything you will need for this session: Threads, documents, collaborative documents, Zoom links or other, etc.

    Attendee List
This acts much like a Who's Who. Everyone who signed up and is thus registered and taking part in the eAGM will appear on that list.
    Link: Attendee List

This section will contact all the documents prepared for you to get into matters to be discussed at this year's eAGM. Please reserve some time to have an in-depth look at these documents, and read them to be all up to speed for the upcoming sessions.

This is a forum that is set aside for the Elections of Co-Chairs and Executive Committee. Everything pertaining to the elections will happen in this forum and its subsections.

    Forum Structure
Information is the first main category. It contains this forum you're looking at now: the Introduction. All the main information pertaining to the 2022 AGM will be posted in this forum. It's mainly for reading purposes.
The second forum is the AGM Schedule. It will hold all information about sessions in a text-based format. Please read carefully, the session descriptions might contain information about how to comment / discuss aspects about the session in particular.
The third forum is the "Ask the Organisers", which is a whole forum dedicated to finding help. Please remember - one topic per thread. Anyone seeking assistance should start their own new thread, or see if someone else already posed the same question. Once a question was answered, we will lock the thread (and thus mark it as done).

    AGM Interaction
This category is designed to contain all the interaction ongoing that usually happens at an AGM. There is a section to post your icebreakers. Remember to give a heartfelt welcome to all the new members of 2022.
Then there is a forum dedicated to the Elections. There you will find all the candidate profiles. Each will have its own thread, and allow for responses from you so you can ask your questions to that candidate directly and openly. The forum furthermore contains information on how to vote and an option to ask the NEC your questions about the election process directly.
The AGM Session-related discussion will contain all the topics adhering to sessions of the AGM Schedule that requires your input. Check this forum often and provide as much input as you can and as is appropriate.
The GYA current discussions can contain all other discussion about matters that the GYA should be aware of or active in.

    Pillars of the GYA
This category contains all forums about what one might call the most important fields the GYA works in / through. One forum is dedicated to the Working Groups (and other activities), one for Committees and one for NYAs.

    Off Topic
This section contains all topics that we are coining as off-topic in the greater context of the AGM. This is a forum that can be used for informal chatter (post about your favourite pets, food or what not).

You might find further information threads stuck to the top of each of the individual forums. Please also check them before you begin to post.

These are the core of any GYA Annual General Meeting, of course, and provide ample opportunity to discuss core GYA issues, and for members to vote on them. This year, among other items, we will discuss the proposed Code of Professional Behaviour and Conduct, and implications of the COVID-19 pandemic on young academy membership duration.

    • Become a moderator for the AGM
      by GYA AGM Organisation
Each GYA AGM is only as fantastic as you, the members and alumni, make it! Therefore, consider taking on responsibilities for this year’s AGM – by picking a session to help with, or coming up with small icebreaker-ideas that we could do together. Or join in as a session moderator to help get discussions going and guide them. There will be no need for lengthy presentations, so do not worry. Rather, the AGM is all about engaging with your fellow members and keeping the exchange going.
