  • The tools of the 2022 AGM: Zoom, Wonder, and the GYA Agora

    Originally posted in Ticker #3

Zoom – We will once again be using Zoom for all the video conferencing sessions of the AGM (and conference). You can use Zoom without a local install – but might, after the past two years spent in pandemic times, have a local client installed already. Do check whether you have the latest update installed, and whether you have your login credentials at the ready.

Sessions on Zoom will entail joining others live and on varying topics. You will have the opportunity to listen and to engage. You should be prepared before joining any online session. Read up on the provided documents, watch the videos that were provided etc. Do check the Agora topics in the calendar forum (the topic links are posted in the description of the calendar as well) for further information on how to prepare.

Note that sessions are likely to be recorded. If you do not wish to be recorded, do not take part. We suggest that then you watch the recording instead. If you have the need to hide your true identity from a recording, contact the GYA Office and we will provide you with suggestions on how to do it.

Wonder – If you took part in 2021’s AGM you will certainly remember Wonder. Wonder is our second tool to allow for virtual interaction. Live sessions that take place on Wonder are informal and non-centric. This means that everyone can join at any time. You can discuss with a group of people, or just a single person. It’s all up to you. During the AGM main week, the GYA Wonder room will always be open. You can use it to meet with others, discuss upcoming or past sessions – it's a great networking tool!

Agora – The Agora is our community message board. It is always open, and you can post at any time in any of the forums and topics you would like to contribute to. Other members and alumni can respond in their own time and pick up on the topic you touched upon. It is the place to find the AGM resources, be it documents or information about online sessions. How about you bookmark the forum start page now, and add a bookmark to the Calendar forum while you are at it for quick and easy access.

The eternal cycles of nature, while changing, never lose their creativity.

Art is one way to harmonize and visualize the "sensibility to feel beauty" and "science reveals its truth.”
The plants of this art garden are designed to bloom in sequence over the course of a year.
They are intended to evoke our imagination about the cycles of nature and time, and to pass on the vegetation of the present to future generations....

      GYA General Assembly Sessions
These are the core of any GYA Annual General Meeting, of course, and provide ample opportunity to discuss core GYA issues, and for members to vote on them. This year, among other items, we will discuss the proposed Code of Professional Behaviour and Conduct, and implications of the COVID-19 pandemic on young academy membership duration.

Heading into the third year of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it was simply not possible to allow for a full in-person conference and AGM this year. Rest assured, facing this reality happened with a heavy heart. We all want to meet again, and it requires quite large amounts of strength to continue...
