These are the core of any GYA Annual General Meeting, of course, and provide ample opportunity to discuss core GYA issues, and for members to vote on them. This year, among other items, we will discuss the proposed Code of Professional Behaviour and Conduct, and implications of the COVID-19 pandemic on young academy membership duration.
GYA Activities groups on the Agora
All groups, as well as GYA Committees and the EC, will have a space on the Agora, to asynchronously share reporting of past activities and outcomes, engage with the new GYA members, and discuss ideas for future projects. You can find these online spaces in the Agora Forums section. A call to submit your group’s reporting has gone out to all groups from Anna-Maria; please contact her for any questions you may have.
GYA Activities Satellite Meetings
All GYA activities groups (Working Groups, Incubators, Focus Groups, etc) had been invited to create live, public satellite sessions (this call is now closed). In those sessions, the five groups that responded will present a recently accomplished group output to a live, public audience. Details on these sessions will be included in the AGM programme in the coming days.
GYA Activities internal work meetings – As in previous years, each group can have two internal work meetings, one prior to the AGM main week, and one after the main week. These meetings are to discuss next plans for your group, select new co-leads (where relevant) and to welcome new members to your group. The Office will provide Zoom rooms for these meetings; a call to pick dates and times will go out to all in the coming days.
Activities Networking Fair
While the group work meetings (see above) are all about work and might not fit everyone’s busy schedules, the two live Activities Fair sessions on Wonder (to accommodate different time zones) will be all about informally meeting your fellow group members, introducing your group and its activities to fellow GYA members, saying hello to the new GYA members and getting them interested in your group, chatting to members from other GYA groups to see about starting a joint project, or chatting to other groups about common challenges when running a GYA group, etc. - the topics to choose from here tend to be endless! These networking meetings are for all GYA members, no matter whether you already are a member of a certain GYA group or not. A call for these Wonder sessions will come to you and your GYA group within the next few days.
Conference Sessions
There is a number of (public) conference sessions to take part in, along with members from other young academies, and guests from the GYA’s partner organisations. Organised by the LOC in Japan, these will take place on Zoom. Find more information about these panels here:

Our beloved GYA Lightning Talks are making a return this year! But not as you know them. In 2022, we will have a setup for the Lightning Talks that some might call "speed-dating format”, as these will be spotlighting your research field to a small but very dedicated group of members and alumni. It will be a fun, (slightly) informal but highly interesting format and it will help you understand your fellow GYA members and alumni and their individual research better. There are two sessions in the calendar, again one for each major time zone section.
