GYA Activities groups at the e-AGM

  • GYA Activities groups at the e-AGM

Similar to last year, all GYA Activities Groups (working groups, incubators, strategic projects, 2020/22 focus areas, partner projects and Sasha-Kagansky Interdisciplinary Grant groups) can make use of the virtual collaboration space on the GYA Agora (see here for information how to access this year’s AGM platform).

All activities-related information and documents for the e-AGM will be online from early May, so that groups can then start collaborating electronically (e.g. jointly working on documents).

There, groups can present their work online, jointly work on current projects with their group members, engage with the wider GYA membership and attract new members for their groups.

To this end, groups have been asked to provide brief reports to the Office by mid-April (Anna-Maria), as well as an optional welcome video from their group for the new GYA members. All of these will then be shared online for all GYA members to read and interact with, and they will be an excellent opportunity for groups to showcase their achievements and to recruit new members!

In addition to these non-live, asynchronous virtual collaboration spaces, the Office will again organise Zoom meetings for working groups and other GYA activities groups to “meet” and collaborate, discuss and plan for the year ahead. Anna-Maria will be in touch with all groups in mid-April with more information on how this will work, and to allocate virtual meeting times for each group. Up to two slots per group will be available, in the days before and after the e-AGM main week (14-17 June).

This year again, groups will also be able to make use of Wonder, to meet "accidentally", serendipitously and independently of the GYA Office Zoom set-up. Wonder will allow for serendipity and accidental meetings one-on-one, or in small groups online, which might be particularly useful to engage with the new members, and to come up with new ideas for group activities. Further information on how this will work can be found here.

A few GYA groups are scheduled to present their recent work and outcomes during the live sessions in the AGM main week or as satelite events in the weeks before and after (see programme here).

2022 incoming GYA members will receive a separate mailing, explaining how to sign up to existing GYA activities groups. Additionally, links for joining will be put on groups’ pages.

After the e-AGM, newly developed plans for the next 12 months will be collected from each group and published in a special GYA Activities Newsletter.

      GYA General Assembly Sessions
These are the core of any GYA Annual General Meeting, of course, and provide ample opportunity to discuss core GYA issues, and for members to vote on them. This year, among other items, we will discuss the proposed Code of Professional Behaviour and Conduct, and implications of the COVID-19 pandemic on young academy membership duration.

Heading into the third year of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it was simply not possible to allow for a full in-person conference and AGM this year. Rest assured, facing this reality happened with a heavy heart. We all want to meet again, and it requires quite large amounts of strength to continue...
